Shiatsu, meaning "finger pressure," is a physical therapy and therapeutic pressure-point massage technique developed in Japan many centuries ago. Shiatsu therapy follows principles similar to western massage based on a thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology. Finger pressure is applied to specific points on the body in order to stimulate channels or rivers of energy called meridians (pathways through which life energy flows) for physical and energetic rebalance.
Shiatsu can be used for health maintenance, to correct internal dysfunctions and to treat pain and illness including stress, circulatory problems, depression, asthma, headaches, diarrhea, and bronchitis. The body's inner powers of energy and healing are both stimulated and re-balanced, providing pain relief and a strengthening of the body's resistance. By applying pressure to the blocked meridian, relief from pain and disease can result.

GINAT'S SHIATSU THERAPY
Ginat began her study of shiatsu in the early 1980s with the Japanese master Toshiko Phipps, founder of the Nippon Shiatsu Daigaku and Phipps Clinic in Putney, VT, USA. Sensei Phipps introduced a method of treatment called Integrative Eclectic Shiatsu that incorporates successful techniques from a multitude of healing modalities. Thus each shiatsu treatment is specifically geared towards the client's individual needs, drawing from a wide array of possibilities.
Using her extensive training as a macrobiotic counselor, Ginat offers a personal health diagnosis with each shiatsu treatment. In this way she is able to fashion the session according to the client's specific needs. Each treatment session addresses dietary and lifestyle guidelines as desired by the client.
Ginat works on a massage table rather than on the floor. She finds this much more comfortable for both client and practitioner, and it offers her the possibility to work more precisely and efficiently. The client can also choose to have a seated shiatsu session focusing on the areas of his head, neck and shoulders.
Shiatsu implies energetic healing, a vital part of her treatment. Depending on the client's needs and receptivity, she offers pressure point shiatsu, attunement, energetic healing and cranial sacral techniques. The client often relaxes deeply during a shiatsu session, sometimes briefly sleeping. This profound rest has curative powers. The client is invited to remain on the table at the end of the session until he feels ready to rise. He will feel calm and restored, and peacefully energized.
Shiatsu is a transfer of energy in its purest form, and the health condition of the practitioner is vital. Thirty five years of macrobiotic practice ensures that Ginat passes along to her clients good quality personal energy.
