Summary and Impressions of the Macrobiotic Community: The first macrobiotic practitioner was Quang Van Tran from Veitnam who arrived in Oklahoma City in the 1980's. Carolyn McGerraugh began teaching there  in 1994.  Today she works together with Phyllis Libby to provide counseling and teaching services. Convincing anyone in Oklahoma to stop eating beef is a task for a strong willed, persistent and assertive person.  Phyllis Libby certainly fills that description. Phyllis and Carolyn have created a small but active community despite resistance by their non-vegetarian environment.

Macrobiotic Community Assessment: Moderate Services: 1 counselor & 1 cooking teacher.  Moderate Activities: Monthly pot luck.  Small active group; macro activities started in 1994.
Area Description: Oklahoma City is the capital and largest city in the state.  It ranks as one of the chief centers of oil production in the United States.  It is a commercial and manufacturing center of Oklahoma and a distribution point for a large farming area.  Its metropolitan area population if 958,800.
