MACROBIOTICS IN THE UNITED STATES: An Assessment of Services and Activities

Study Areas in Nebraska: Omaha

Omaha, NE

Map of Omaha

Summary and Impressions of the Macrobiotic Community: Patrick McDermott and his wife, Karin established the macrobiotic community in 1980.  When they divorced, Patrick remained in Omaha, but community activities came to an end. More recently, Melinda Kaizer had a strong private macrobiotic practice doing counseling and cooking, but cut back on her cooking since having her second child. With the area dependent on a single counselor, and the lack of other leadership, Omaha is and will be subject to changes until another leader becomes available to carry the community.  Meanwhile, the recent arrival of Verne Varona to Omaha, will hopefully improve counseling availability in the area.
