Community Description

Area Description

Tucson is a commercial and research center of the Southwest. Its warm, dry, sunny climate makes it a popular health and winter resort area and retirement center. The University of Arizona, federal, state and local governments are the city's major employers. Its metropolitan area population is 666,900.

Municipalities With Macrobiotic Services Or Activities

Tucson only.

Summary and Impressions of the Community

Alice Blistein and David Jackson were associated with macrobiotics for 10 years in Tucson giving dinners and lectures. Alice started her macrobiotic career as a cook on a guest ranch. Tucson had an active community when Alice Blistein and David Jackson were actively pursuing macrobiotic services. Although Alice still lives in Tucson and provides cooking services, community focus has diminished completely.
