Summary and Impressions of the Community

In the 1970's, Dr Jean Koehler cured himself of pancreatic cancer by following a macrobiotic diet. His successful recovery sparked an active macrobiotic community that continued until the mid 1980's under the direction of Ken Meyer and Edwina Prim. Ken began the Stillwater restaurant in 1980 which remained open for 6 years until he left. He and Edwina began the Indianapolis Education Foundation. They hosted potluck dinners and visiting speakers until 1986. But with their departure services macrobiotic activities have moved at a very modest pace. Currently, the Hughes farm, located closer to the Cincinnati area, occasionally hosts macrobiotic functions that also attract some people from Indianapolis, although it is about 100 miles away. Activities include potluck dinners every six weeks as well as counseling and classes taught by Mary O' Farrell.
